Please Send E-Mail In Support of HB 844

House Bill 844 in Maryland requires hospitals to distribute information about postpartum depression to all new moms.

SaferMaternity.org is pleased to announce that Maryland Delegate Brian Feldman introduced HB 844 on behalf of SaferMaternity.org because:

1. postpartum depression is the most widely suffered maternal complication. 10 to 15 percent of all new mothers suffer from postpartum depression. In Maryland, that translates to 7,000 to 10,500 women every year.
   
2. postpartum depression is the most under-diagnosed maternal complication.
   
3. without help, postpartum depression can persist over long periods of time.
   
4. the whole family is impacted when the new mom suffers from postpartum depression.
   
5. HB 844 is virtually cost free - free brochures are available.
   
6. all new moms in Maryland should be targeted with information about symptoms and where to go for help and support.

Action Needed ASAP:

1. Forward this e-mail to all your friends.
   
2. General Support: E-mail members of the Maryland House of Delegate's Health and Government Committee (addresses below) telling them to support HB 844 and why you think it is important. A short paragraph to as many of the Delegates listed below is crucial! Deadline: Feb. 24th.
   
3. Testimony: If you have personal experience with PPD yourself, as a friend, sister, brother, parent, caregiver, doctor etc., send a detailed e-mail or letter to Committee Chairman John Adams Hurson and ask for your e-mail or letter to be considered Testimony for the hearing.
